The exhibition, laid out on two floors of the museum, represents all the phases of American artist Bruce Nauman's extremely varied oeuvre, from 1965 to the present, including videos, neon pieces, sculptures, drawings and installations.
Mapping the Studio II consists of 7 wall-sized video projections in a rectangular room whose dimensions are determined by the size of Nauman’s real studio in New Mexico. It is the second of four variations on the same theme, and in contrast to the first, unplugged version, which recently caused attention at the DIA Center for the Arts in New York, the second is in color and turns suddenly upside down. Mice, a cat, moths and more moths appear in various views of the sparse studio. Using a static night vision camera, Bruce Nauman explores the authentic site of artistic production by recording what happens in his studio at night.
