In Gurunsi, choreographer Souleymane Badolo’s native language, “Barack” means greeting. Badolo conceived of this dance as an offering to his adopted country—the U.S.—and the people who have helped him along the way.
Souleymane Badolo is a participant in LMCC’s Extended Life Dance Development program, made possible in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Barack is commissioned by LMCC and presented as part of the River To River Festival.
