Hector Berlioz: La Damnation de Faust

In French with German supertitles

Mephisto arranges the love affair between Faust and Gretchen, Faust leaves the young girl, she kills their mutual child and is executed for murder.  Goethe’s story is well-known. Here we experience the dream-like version slightly distorted: which impression, which feeling, which image of the real events is the "correct" one? Like no other opera, Berlioz’ La damnation de Faust (1846) paved the way for the idea of a European music theatre into modernity.
