The George Coleman New Octet

Born in 1935 in Memphis, TN, tenor sax titan George Coleman worked with Max Roach and Slide Hampton before joining the Miles Davis Quintet and appearing on such five–star Miles albums as Seven Steps to Heaven and My Funny Valentine as well as Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage. After stints with Lionel Hampton and Elvin Jones, Coleman steadily emerged as an important leader in his own right: Manhattan Panorama (1985) and Danger High Voltage (2000) are just two highlights of his extensive discography.
