Matthias Schorn, principal clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic performs 11 new works for solo clarinet from his brand new album, born to be schorn, written by eleven different artistic personalities: Austrian composers Friedrich Cerha, Balduin Sulzer, Richard Dünser, Paul Engel, Thomas Gansch, Georg Breinschmid, Richard Trautwein, and Leonard Eröd and Jarkko Riihimäki (Finland), Igmar Alderete Acosta (Spain), and Athanasia Tzanou (Greece)
Matthias Schorn was born in Salzburg, where he studied with Alois Brandhofer at the Mozarteum University of the Arts, then with Johann Hindler at the Vienna University of Music, where he concluded his studies with a Masters thesis in ethnomusicology. Schorn began his professional career as a clarinettist at Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. After further stints at the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester (Berlin) and at the Munich Philharmonic he joined the Vienna Philharmonic as principal clarinettist in 2007.
