|Poncho Sanchez And His Latin Jazz Band|
Before conguero Poncho Sanchez started his Latin Jazz Band, which has gone on to become the premier Latin jazz ensemble working today, he served an important apprenticeship with Cal Tjader, a pioneering Latin jazz bandleader since the 1950s. Sanchez worked in Tjaderís group from the beginning of 1975 until Calís death in May 1982.
Band members include Poncho Sanchez (Congas), George Ortiz (Timbales), Tony Banda (Bass), Ron Blake (Trumpet), Javier Vergara (Alto and Tenor Saxophone), Francisco Torres (Trombone), Joseph De Leon (Bongo and Percussion) and David Torres (Piano).
