The Garden of Paradise

The Garden of Paradise
MILAN  •  Poldi Pezzoli Museum  •  Ongoing
The Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan presents a special exhibition, curated by Michael Franses, to celebrate the restoration of one of its greatest works of art: the Imperial Paradise Park Carpet of Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli. Made 450 years ago in Central Iran, this is one of the few complete carpets that survive today in almost pristine condition. Its colours are as fresh as the day it was made in the royal workshops by order of Shah Tahmasp (reigned 1524–1576) as an imperial gift. To complement this carpet the museum exhibits seven fragments from other superb 16th-century Persian carpets from Italian collections. Also included, from its own collection, is the famous Hunting carpet from the first half of the 16th century.
