The fourth annual Flamenco Festival features over 80 dancers, singers and musicians direct from Spain in an extraordinary display of flamenco puro, classical flamenco, and contemporary innovations. Featured will be the Gala de Sevilla, a benefit concert for World Music Institute with an all-star cast including such prominent artists as Manuela Carrasco, Chocolate, Israel Galván, Juan de Juan and Rocio Molina (January 29); the sensuous dance of the Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras (January 30); the classical flamenco of the Compañía Andaluza de Danza in its New York debut (January 31, February 1); the singer José Mercé (February 7); the hip hop flamenco music sensation, Ojos de Brujo, in its New York debut (February 15); and the dazzling guitar of Spanish virtuoso Paco de Lucía (February 27). In addition to these events, New Yorkers will be exposed to the many facets of flamenco and Spanish culture through the Roger Smith Hotel’s Iberian Food Festival, and lectures, exhibits and film screenings sponsored by Instituto Cervantes.
