Theatre: The Norman Conquests

Theatre: The Norman Conquests : by Alan Ayckbourn
AMSTERDAM  •  Stadsschouwburg  •  Ongoing
How long does love last? And how do we survive our marriage? These are questions posed by the well-known comedy writer Alan Ayckbourn in The Norman Conquests, three light-hearted dramas about passion, marriage and helplessness in a relationship. All three plays are performed on one evening by a cast of only six actors. They play a brother, two sisters and their partners who spend a weekend together in their parental home, where the same situation is shown three times from different perspectives.

The Norman Conquests is the first of four marriage dramas to be directed by Ivo van Hove in the coming years with Toneelgroep Amsterdam.

Ivo van Hove has been artistic director of the Holland Festival since 1998. The 2004 Festival is his last as artistic director. Van Hove is also director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam and a popular guest directing plays all over the world.
