Lakshmi Vishwanathan Dancers and Musicians arrive from Madras, southern India to perform new stagings of traditional bharata natyam dances. This 2,000-year-old dance form emphasizes precise movements of the hands, face, feet, and torso to relate stories of the Hindu gods and goddesses. Ms. Vishwanathan is an acclaimed choreographer and dancer, renowned in her home country for her poeticism of movement and her scholarship in the field of dance. In related Free Events, the company performs a preview performance on Wednesday, July 21 at Inside/Out, and Ms. Vishwanathan offers a lecture-demonstration of bharata natyam as part of Community Day on Saturday, July 24 at 10am.
