Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640)

Already during his lifetime, Rubens was much in demand as an artist and received numerous assignments from noted collectors all over the world. To finish these assignments in time, the Flemish artist maintained an enormous workshop. But it was Rubens himself who did most of the sketches, many of which were transformed into giant oil paintings by his assistants.
For the first time, the Albertina presents the "authentic" Rubens by exhibiting the works he executed himself – from sketches to oil paintings.
