Paris Opéra Ballet
Etudes, choreography Lander
Véronique Doisneau, choreography: Jerome Bel
Glass Pieces choreography: Robbins
The season at the Paris Opéra Ballet opens with Harold Lander's popular showpiece set to music by Czerny adapted by Riisager, created for the Royal Danish Ballet in 1948. The French company are presenting the revised version created for them four years later, which they dance to perfection. It begins with the members of the company taking class at the barre and progresses through various exercises in adagio, petit and grand allegro. Three hundred years of dance in less than one hour.
Glass Pieces, created for New York City Ballet some twenty years ago, is another 'modern' classic the French dancers have made their own.
Curiously, these two masterpieces have been programmed with a short work by Frenchman Jerome Bel, whose claim to fame so far lies in the assistance given to Philippe Découflé for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in 1992. Maybe Mademoiselle Doisneau will provide him with the inspiration he has since been lacking.
