This exhibition examines the patronage of Cardinal Richelieu and his inner circle, and the use this great statesman made of the visual arts of his era to promote his political and cultural vision of a new and unified France. It focuses on the grandiose period between 1620 and 1642-1643 and presents over two hundred works - paintings, sculpture, prints and drawing, architectural plans, maquettes and decorative art objects - by artists such as Philippe de Champaigne, Charles Le Brun, Claude Lorrain, Nicolas Poussin and Simon Vouet.
