San Francisco Ballet
As the sole dance company performing throughout the three-week festival, SF Ballet will present eight works over three programs. In addition, the Company has commissioned three world premieres from renowned choreographers Lar Lubovitch, Paul Taylor, and Christopher Wheeldon, which will be performed together on the first of two mixed repertory programs.
The second mixed repertory program includes works by George Balanchine and SF Ballet Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson, who celebrates his twentieth anniversary with the Company this year. The third program will feature the full-length production of Don Quixote, choreographed by Tomasson and SF Ballet Principal Dancer Yuri Possokhov (after Petipa).
Under the artistic directorship of Claude Bessy, Les étés de la danse is managed by former Paris Opéra Ballet dancer Valery Colin, who has staged dance gala events throughout the world. The outdoor festival will be presented against the backdrop of the elegantly restored eighteenth-century Hotel de Rohan, home of the National Archive, in the Marais district of Paris.
