This exhibition brings together outstanding examples of “digital”, or computer generated art by eight artists from around the world. Their art is kinetic, it can be interactive, its imagery can evolve over time, or in some cases, ad infinitum, perpetually reproducing and mutating. As evinced in All Digital, these works can exist as objects in the “physical” world or as embodiments of form, pattern, color and ideas in virtual space. This exhibition of digital art features commissioned work and two world premieres including a large-scale installation of projected data in which the words of an entire encyclopedia are transformed from a static entity into fluid text that streams over floors, walls and throughout the space.
Featured artists include Charles Sandison, John Simon, Christa Sommerer/Laurent Mignonneau, Lynn Hershman Leedson, Leo Villareal and Paul Chan. The gaming artist Anne-Marie Schleiner is also included. These artists represent examples of artistic experimentation in the new media subgenres of software art, interactive installation, digital animation, artificial intelligence, and the field of gaming.
