Adolph Menzel (1815-1905) came to Dresden on a number of occasions in behalf to draw here. After that, he returned repeatedly – fourteen times altogether. Over a period of 50 years Menzel studied the famous buildings, especially the Zwinger, and Dresden’s renowned artistic treasures. The works he produced, which are now housed mainly in the Berlin Collection of Prints and Drawings as well as in other collections, are on display for the first time in their place of origin.
