With approximately 200 works, the show features all the creative phases of Matisse’s art, from the small, somber, powerful early pictures to the masterly compositions of the Fauvist phase, the intimate pictorial inventions of the socalled Nice period, and finally the brightly luminous and weightless late paper cutouts.
While the main focus is on Matisse’s paintings and drawings, compact ensembles of bronze sculptures and prints are also on view.
