Contemporary photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto explores connections between past and present modes of seeing, spirituality, and artistic creation by juxtaposing his photographs with ancient and medieval Japanese artworks from his personal collection. Approximately 60 ritual burial figures, bronze reliquaries, wood pagodas, and Noh masks—as well as fossils and twentieth-century artifacts—reverberate with Sugimoto's precise Diorama and Seascape series.
