Hockney’s creative development and concerns about representation can be traced through his portrait work, from his battle with naturalism, to his experimentation with, and later rejection of photography, and return to painting from life. The exhibition features approximately 160 works with subjects ranging from his parents, self-portraits, friends and lovers, artists, and patrons and projects. Canvases on view include Henry Geldzahler and Christopher Scott (1969), Mr. and Mrs. Clark and Percy (1970 - 71), Self-Portrait with Blue Guitar (1977), Berverly Hills Housewife (1966) and My Parents (1977).
