This show features seventy-five large-format color and black-and-white photographs taken for Leibovitz’s book of the same title (Random House, 1999), which features an essay by Susan Sontag. The photographs in the exhibition and the book encompass a broad spectrum of subjects, both famous and unknown: a rap artist, an astronaut, farmers, movie stars, showgirls, socialites, a general, a surgeon, political figures, teachers, singers, athletes, writers, artists, manual laborers, musicians, and businesswomen.
