Travel Tip: Art and Archaeology in Canada
Girodet, Romantic Rebel

Girodet, Romantic Rebel
CANADA
MONTRÉAL  •  Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal  •  Ongoing

First seen at the Musee du Louvre and then at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this show focuses on the strange, poetic and sensual paintings of Jacques-Louis David’s dissident pupil, Anne Louis Girodet, 1767–1824, who witnessed both the Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire. Girodet broadened the horizons of French painting and introduced the world of immateriality and dreams.
