Titian: The Power of Portaits

With over 60 works on loan from 14 countries this exhibition features 35 portraits by Titian (ca. 1488 - 1576) of powerful men of his time such as the Emperor Charles V, Philip II and Francis I, along with portraits of doges, popes and cardinals. The portraits of these influential patrons are on view alongside comparative works produced by other major artists, such as Rubens, Lorenzo Lotto, Parmigianino, Tintoretto, Benvenuto Cellini, Giulio Romano and Paris Bordone. Curated by Nicola Spinosa, the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples, recently held a sister exhibition entitled Tiziano e il ritratto di corte da Raffaello ai Carracci.
